Marion is Our Hometown
What is now known as Marion, was known in 1679 as Sippican, named for the Indian tribe that once lived there. Sippican was the Wampanoag name for the local tribe. Marion was renamed in 1852, in honor of the Revolutionary War hero, Francis Marion. Marion, mainly a residential town, has a certain beauty and charm felt by the residents that live there. A seacoast community with small town character, Marion's Sippican Harbor hosts a variety of waterfront programs, including swimming at the town beaches, boating and fishing.
